Hilfe für Krebskranke Kinder e.V.
Every year in Germany approximately 2000 children and teenagers are diagnosed with cancer, i.e. leukemia or malignant tumors. Parents of affected children founded the non-profit organisation “Hilfe für Krebskranke Kinder e.V:” in 1983 in co-operation with Professor Dr. med. Kornhuber who at the time headed the paediatric clinic for cancer at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt. The organisation is focused on supporting young cancer patients, their families and friends at their homes and in hospital. Through their support the organisation aims to help patients and their families to have sufficient trust, strength and confidence to go through the necessary treatments which are often physically and mentally hard to endure. Thanks to generous donations the organisation was able to open a family centre in close proximity to it’s headquarters in 1993, which provides accommodation and support for families and friends of the cancer patients. www.hfkk.de
Steps for children
The foundation steps for children supports children and youths in need in Africa. The vision is the lasting self-sufficiency of these children without outside help. HIV/Aids orphans and other socially vulnerable children are at the centre of the organisation’s activities. Children are able to learn and can shape their own future. steps for children develops measures which sustainably support the education as well as the children's and youth's holistic personal development.
What is special about steps for children are the income generating units of the project (= steps) which are financially viable and additionally make a contribution to the social steps. This way the project will become independent of donations and development aid in the long run. Sustainability, help to help oneself and professionalism are most important.
The first project for children in Africa was initiated by Dr. Michael Hoppe in Okakarara/Namibia. www.stepsforchildren.de
